October 2, 2006 —FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: CHRIS PORTER

“Especially For Women” will be the theme for an upcoming women’s health seminar in Franklin.

UPMC Northwest, Venango-Forest Cancer Coalition, and Adagio Health have organized the free event, which is set Wednesday, Oct. 25, at The Franklin Club. Doors will open at 4 pm and the program will get under way at 5:45 pm. A buffet dinner is included.
A grant from the Pittsburgh affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will fund the program, which will focus on a variety of women’s health concerns.

The event will include blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, stroke and osteoporosis screenings, exhibits by local health care organizations, and a door prize drawing. For the glucose and cholesterol screenings, a three-hour fast is required.

Speakers will be hematologist/oncologist Howard Kirtland, MD, pathologist Zofia Tynski, MD, obstetrician/gynecologist Michael Fetterolf, MD, and radiologist Janet Zehner, MD, all of the UPMC Northwest medical staff. They will address several topics including breast cancer, computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) for breast cancer, human papilloma virus (HPV) and cervical cancer, and bone density and osteoporosis.

Representatives of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will provide information on financial assistance for mammograms.

Advance registration is required. Registrations are limited and are being
accepted on a first come, first served basis. Women can sign up for the program or learn more by calling 814-677-1463 or The Health Line, UPMC Northwest’s physician referral/information service, 1-800-422-8888.
