UPMC NORTHWEST SETS PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING IN
KNOX
September
8, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: CHRIS PORTER
UPMC Northwest
will offer a prostate cancer screening program later this month
in Knox.
The free screenings will be offered from 5 to 7 pm Monday, Sept.
25, at Koenig Family Practice-UPMC, 334 N. Main St., Knox.
The screenings,
intended for men age 40 and older, will include an examination by
a physician and a PSA blood test.
Advance registration
is required. Men who wish to register or obtain more information
are asked to call UPMC Northwest at 814-677-1463 or 1-800-422-8888.
Family practitioners
David Zlotnicki, MD, of Koenig Family Practice-UPMC, and Randy Kreider,
MD, of Clarion Family Practice-UPMC, will conduct the program.
As with other
forms of cancer, early detection is the key to successful treatment
of prostate cancer. To help bring about early detection, it is recommended
that men undergo a prostate examination every year starting at age
40, and an exam plus a PSA blood test every year beginning at age
50.
Prostate cancer
can reach advanced stages without any symptoms, so it’s important
for men to obtain a prostate examination every year even if they
have no symptoms.
