SUGAR CREEK STATION TO UNVEIL NEW UNIT
Open house for Independent Living Apartments set for June 14
June 5, 2006
Sugar Creek Station is completing construction of its Independent Living Apartments, and it will unveil the new senior housing unit with an open house next week.
The event is set from 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, June 14, in the new apartments, which occupy Sugar Creek Station’s former 700 hallway to the right of the main entrance. Tours, refreshments, and door prizes will be part of the open house, and administrator Nancy Pastorius and other Sugar Creek Station staff members will be present to provide information and answer questions.
Each of the seven apartments (five single and two double units) features a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, and bathroom, and there are several central facilities for residents’ use including a family gathering room, dining/activity room, laundry, storage, and landscaped patio. Every apartment also has a call system to summon help from a Sugar Creek Station staff member in case of emergency.
Residents’ rent includes light housekeeping service, and meals will be available for those who wish to buy them.
The new facility for seniors who can live on their own is “everything we expected it to be,” Mrs. Pastorius says. “We’re very pleased with the apartments.”
Among prospective occupants are individuals whose spouses are Sugar Creek Station residents, people who live alone and wish to obtain meals and other services the new unit will offer, and others who want a comfortable, safe place to live on their own.
Sugar Creek Station developed the apartments with a grant from the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. The grant program helps skilled nursing facilities convert excess beds into new facilities to benefit seniors.
Prospective residents can learn more about the new apartments by contacting Mrs. Pastorius at 814-437-0100.
