UPMC NORTHWEST SCHEDULES CHILDBIRTH EDUCATION CLASSES

May 26, 2006 — UPMC Northwest has scheduled the following childbirth education classes during June. All classes are held in the conference rooms near the lobby on the first floor of the new hospital in Seneca.

A small fee is charged for most classes. Families must register in advance for classes by calling The Family Birthing Center at UPMC Northwest, 814-676-7770.

I'm Expecting Too – 1 to 2 pm Saturday, June 3. This program, recommended during the expectant mother’s eighth or ninth month of pregnancy, is to help children ages 3 to 10 prepare for the birth of a baby brother or sister.

Prepared Childbirth – 6:30 to 9 pm for four straight Wednesdays beginning June 7, or four consecutive Thursdays starting June 8. Expectant mothers should attend this class during about the seventh month of pregnancy. Fathers or other support persons must attend all sessions with the mother.

Prepared Childbirth Refresher – 6 to 9 pm Friday, June 23. This class is for parents who have received prepared childbirth instruction for a previous birth.
