UPMC NORTHWEST BEHAVIORAL HEALTH EXPANDS OUTREACH

Feb. 28, 2006 — Behavioral Health of UPMC Northwest is expanding its community outreach efforts with a variety of worksite education and wellness programs.

Psychiatrist Yogesh Maru, MD, and other Behavioral Health staff members are available to present programs on numerous topics including depression, depression and anxiety, stress management, grief recovery, anger management, team building, workplace communications skills, creating change, workplace substance abuse and other topics.

Employers can choose breakfast or lunchtime lectures, or can opt for half-day or all-day education and wellness programs that also may include screenings and presentations by other UPMC Northwest staff members on various health topics.

Behavioral Health frequently collaborates with local companies’ Employee Assistance Programs when it presents lectures and other programs.

Behavioral Health includes a 28-bed inpatient unit at the new UPMC Northwest hospital in Seneca, which features an adolescent unit and specialized therapeutic programs for teenage, adult and geriatric patients. Outpatient behavioral health services including personal counseling, medication management, and drug and alcohol counseling are available in the Behavioral Health outpatient center at the hospital’s West Unit in Franklin.

As a member of the UPMC Behavioral Health Network, Behavioral Health of UPMC Northwest has a direct link to Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic – a national leader in treating mental health and addictive disorders – that also is advancing behavioral health care locally.

Information about Behavioral Health’s worksite education and wellness programs is available from Beth Black, outreach specialist, at 814-437-4539.
