UPMC NORTHWEST NAMES NURSING UNIT DIRECTORS
May 10, 2005
UPMC Northwest has named Kathleen Peterson, RN, as the
hospital’s unit director of 3 North (Medical) and Rachel Beels,
RN, OCN, as unit director of 3 South (Oncology).
Mrs. Peterson
has 15 years of nursing experience including the past four years
at Brookville Hospital, where she was director of home health care.
Her nursing career also has included clinical practice in medical/surgical,
ICU, pediatrics, and I.V. therapy, and positions in quality assurance
and nursing administration.
The Knox native
is a graduate of Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing and holds
a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Clarion University.
Mrs. Beels comes
to her new post from Cancer Care Specialists, the local hematology/oncology/radiation
oncology practice where she was nurse manager the past four years.
In addition to cancer care, her 11 years of nursing experience also
includes clinical practice in medical/surgical, emergency, I.V.
therapy, and home care.
The Erie native
holds a diploma from the St. Vincent School of Nursing in Erie and
a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University.
“Kathleen’s
and Rachel’s nursing skills and experience will greatly benefit
our medical and oncology units,” says Rhonda Steigewald, RNC,
UPMC Northwest’s assistant vice president of nursing. “They
will be a great addition to UPMC Northwest and our nursing management
team.”
In conjunction
with these appointments, 3 North/3 South interim director Wendy
Kozek, RN, is resuming her role as UPMC Northwest’s primary
nursing care coordinator.
