UPMC NORTHWEST NAMES NURSING UNIT DIRECTORS

May 10, 2005 — UPMC Northwest has named Kathleen Peterson, RN, as the hospital’s unit director of 3 North (Medical) and Rachel Beels, RN, OCN, as unit director of 3 South (Oncology).

Mrs. Peterson has 15 years of nursing experience including the past four years at Brookville Hospital, where she was director of home health care. Her nursing career also has included clinical practice in medical/surgical, ICU, pediatrics, and I.V. therapy, and positions in quality assurance and nursing administration.

The Knox native is a graduate of Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Clarion University.

Mrs. Beels comes to her new post from Cancer Care Specialists, the local hematology/oncology/radiation oncology practice where she was nurse manager the past four years. In addition to cancer care, her 11 years of nursing experience also includes clinical practice in medical/surgical, emergency, I.V. therapy, and home care.

The Erie native holds a diploma from the St. Vincent School of Nursing in Erie and a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University.

“Kathleen’s and Rachel’s nursing skills and experience will greatly benefit our medical and oncology units,” says Rhonda Steigewald, RNC, UPMC Northwest’s assistant vice president of nursing. “They will be a great addition to UPMC Northwest and our nursing management team.”

In conjunction with these appointments, 3 North/3 South interim director Wendy Kozek, RN, is resuming her role as UPMC Northwest’s primary nursing care coordinator.
