OPEN HOUSE SET AT HOSPITAL'S NEW CANCER CENTER
April 19,
2005 UPMC Northwest will unveil its new Radiation Oncology
Unit (Cancer Center) during an open house Thursday, April 21, at
the hospital in Seneca.
The open house
is set from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in the new unit on the ground floor
of the hospital. Tours, refreshments and door prizes will be part
of the event.
The new cancer
center is the first in the region to offer intensity modulated radiation
therapy (IMRT), a powerful new weapon to fight cancer. With the
unit’s leading edge Siemens ONCOR Linear Accelerator and its
IMRT function, radiation treatment team members can deliver more
precise, more powerful doses of radiation than ever against prostate,
breast,
lung,
head
and neck, and other cancers
according to radiation oncologist Joanne
Dragun, MD.
Dr. Dragun
and other members of UPMC Northwest’s radiation treatment
team will provide information and answer questions during the event.
