ANESTHESIOLOGIST JOINS UPMC NORTHWEST STAFF

July 18, 2007 — Anesthesiologist Darren Loughran, DO, is the newest member of the UPMC Northwest medical staff. Dr. Loughran’s associates at Northwest Anesthesia Inc. are Gary Switzer, MD, Walter Morris, DO, and Joseph Novak, DO.

Dr. Loughran holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and a degree in osteopathic medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie.

The Pittsburgh native completed an internship at Community Hospital of Lancaster and just finished an anesthesiology residency at Ingham Regional Medical Center, which is affiliated with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lansing, Mich.

Dr. Loughran, his wife Jennifer and their son Logan, 19 months, reside in Oil City.

Dr. Loughran is one of eight physicians who will join the UPMC Northwest medical staff this year. Urologist Sergio Giancola, MD, internist Roulay Thammavong, MD, and pulmonologist Amgad Abdu, MD, already have begun practicing locally; others who will be added to the hospital staff are colon/rectal surgeon David Ferraro, MD, and family practitioners Veronica Santee, MD, Frederick Krueger, DO, and Erica Thammavong, MD.
