FOUNDATION ANNUAL APPEAL SUPPORTS UPMC NORTHWEST

April 9, 2007 — UPMC Northwest Foundation has launched its 2007 Annual Appeal in support of the hospital.

LEND A HAND - "Lend A Hand" was a recent focus for Stacey Sopher's second grade class at Smedley Street School, and students put the theme into action with a contribution to UPMC Northwest Foundation. To say thanks for the gift, the foundation presented gift-filled cups to students including (from left) Zach Goodman, Tessa Moore and Emerald Foust. With them for the gift presentation were foundation executive assistant Nancy Beichner (left) and Mrs. Sopher. "We hope this little bit helps with the wonderful service you provide for the people of our community," the students and Mrs. Sopher wrote in a letter that accompanied their gift.

Proceeds from this year’s appeal will be set aside for future equipment acquisitions, programs, services, or other improvements that help to advance UPMC Northwest’s capabilities.

Individuals can contribute to the appeal by making a check payable to UPMC Northwest Foundation and mailing it to the foundation office at 100 Fairfield Drive, Seneca, PA, 16346.

The foundation’s mission is to enhance UPMC Northwest’s ability to provide high-quality health care for area residents. Gifts given to the independent, locally-controlled foundation stay in the local community and benefit only UPMC Northwest, not the larger UPMC system, according to foundation executive director Roger McCauley.

The foundation’s most recent achievement was its successful 2006 annual appeal that produced gifts for a state-of-the-art General Electric LOGIQ 3 ultrasound system for UPMC Northwest’s Family Birthing Center. The foundation also made an recent investment in local health care through a contribution to UPMC Northwest’s RN Back-to-School program, an associate degree nursing program that the hospital offers with Clarion University-Venango Campus.

Every year the foundation also earmarks funds to assist patients who do not have the resources to pay their hospital expenses, McCauley said.
