UPMC NORTHWEST OPENING UROLOGY PRACTICE IN FRANKLIN Feb. 9, 2007 — UPMC Northwest is opening a new practice known as Northwest Urology-UPMC and has named urologist Sergio Giancola, MD, to staff the practice.
Dr. Giancola will begin seeing patients Monday, Feb. 12, in Suite 2D in the Pennwood Center, 464 Allegheny Blvd. (Route 8 North), Franklin. This office also houses Franklin Community Medicine-UPMC, the practice of family practitioner Peter Bendt, MD, and internist Vijayaprabha Ramanujam, MD. Dr. Giancola has come here from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where he practiced the past two years at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. Earlier he earned a degree in medicine and completed six years of postgraduate study in urology, including a clinical fellowship, at the University of Toronto. The London, Ontario, native’s education also includes a master’s degree in physiology from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario. Dr. Giancola’s special interests are the treatment of prostate disease (prostate cancer and benign prostatic enlargement), treatment of female urological disorders (overactive bladder and incontinence), and minimally-invasive urologic surgery. Dr. Giancola and his wife Gilda and their sons Andrew, 3, and Christian, 16 months, reside in Polk.
